Dialog for ‘Permissions for […]’

In every project there are files that certain users should not be able to see, change or delete. In objectiF RPM, you can assign access rights to users for packages, directories, queries, views and activities within an organization or project. These access rights allow a user to define who or which group can see, edit, create, delete, or change the state of elements.

Note
Permissions that are configured for projects or organizations apply to all elements within that project or organization. Additionally, if you give external people or groups, such as stakeholders, the access rights to a project, select the option for List. This will restrict them to only being able to view a project.

The dialog can be opened:

  • within an organization, using the Project/ Edit Permissions command from the backstage menu
  • within a project via the backstage menu with the command Project/ Edit Permissions
  • or, via the context menu of packages, views, queries, directories, activities, states and project plans with the command Edit permissions

Permissions dialog

Name The name of the entity being configured will be displayed here.

Note
You can assign access rights within an organization to internal and external users, however, you can’t do this for project groups.
‘Permissions’ Tab

Group or User names Click on the Plus button to select in the dialog for which groups or users the defined permissions should apply. Multiple selection is possible.

Permissions Under Groups/User Names, click a user or group to enable the permissions. Assign rights by selecting the check boxes.

Groups Access rights apply to all users assigned to the group. If a user is represented in several groups, they receive the broader set of rights.

Example: Armin Müller is in the group “Team” and “Administrator”. The group “Team” has read-only rights. The group “Administrator” has all rights. Armin Müller is the project administrator and therefore has unlimited rights.

User name The user to whom the rights apply.

None The user has no authorization and therefore cannot see any elements.
All The user has unrestricted rights and can see, edit, delete, create or change the status of elements accordingly.
List The user can see the corresponding element in the Products window, but no context menu commands are offered. If other child elements are subordinate to the element, these are also displayed.
Read The user can see the corresponding element in the Products window, in diagrams and in queries and open the editing dialog. The Show command is offered in the element’s context menu. The element cannot be changed or deleted.
Write The user can change and save the corresponding element. The Show and Edit commands are offered in the context menu of the element. The element cannot be deleted.
Create The user can create elements. The commands Create, Show, Edit are offered in the context menu of the element.
Delete The user can delete the corresponding element. The Show and Edit commands are offered in the context menu of the element.
Change State The user can change the state of the element. The Show and Edit commands are offered in the context menu of the element.

‘File Size’ Tab (only after Version 6.1)

Permissions For projects and organizations, the option Apply from parent element is not available. The drop-down menu offers the following options:

  • Apply from parent element This applies the same access settings from the parent element to its subordinate element. This means that when dealing with an individual project element, it would derive its settings from the package it belongs to. Likewise, when dealing with a package, the settings from the project itself would be applied to it.
In the section for Maximum File Size, you can see the file size limit for the parent element.
  • Unlimited This option means that files of all sizes are allowed. The field for Maximum File Size will be hidden if this option is selected.
  • Limited With this option, you enter a maximum file size. Any files larger than the value entered will not be accepted.

Maximum File Size Depending on what permissions have been assigned to users, in this field you can view and edit the maximum file size.
