Editing and using text snippets

A text snippet is a precreated fragement of text that can be added to other texts. This offers the advantage that texts only need to be written once and can be reused. This helps avoid the creation of new errors and ensures that the correct content is present.

objectiF RPM offers various standard text snippets for each element type (stereotypes). By default that inclues date, current user, project code, and others. You can add more to this list by creating more text snippets.

Create a text snippet

Text snippets are created for stereotypes.

  1. Open the Stereotypes window and choose the command Edit through the context menu of a stereotype.
  2. Switch to the Text Snippets tab.
At the left, beneath Text Snippets, you’ll see the list of previously created text snippets. To the right of this, beneath Properties, you’ll see the content defined for the selected snippet. You can insert text snippets into the content of other text snippets.
  3. Create as many text snippets as you like by pressing the Plus button. Name them and then click in the Content field.
  1. Insert a text for the snippet and use other text snippets within the content by clicking the {A} button. Text snippets cannot contain images and cannot be formated.
  2. Save by pressing OK.
Use a text snippet

Now when you open the editing dialog box for an element (for which you’ve already created text snippets), you will be able to insert the text snippet into any field according to your needs.

  1. Open the editing dialog box for an element for which you’ve created text snippets.
  2. Left click in a name or description field and choose Insert text snippet. A list displays all the available text snippets, including the defaults and the one’s you created.
  3. Choose a text snippet.
The text snippet is inserted. You can modify the text if necessary.
